What your puppy is already eating, and why week one is the wrong time to change it

Puppy Food Promotions and Starter Food

Puppy food promotions, honestly: ask us what is running rather than read a page that may be months old. What is worth knowing either way is what your puppy is already eating, because a sudden switch in the first 7 days is the most common cause of an upset stomach.

Are there puppy food promotions at Puppy Singapore?

Ask us rather than trust a page. Anything printed here is a snapshot, and a stale offer is worse than none. The more useful question is what your puppy is currently eating, since keeping it on that food through the first 7 days at home avoids most upset stomachs.

Why we do not publish a standing offer

Offers change, and a promotions page nobody has updated is a page quietly telling people something untrue. We would rather this one asked you to check.

The first week is the wrong time to change food

A puppy that has just left its litter is dealing with a new home, new people, new smells and its first nights alone. A new diet on top of that is the one variable you can simply choose not to add.

Ask what your puppy is eating before homecoming, and have some of it in the flat on day one. It is the easiest problem you will ever avoid.

Switching later, when you do want to

  • Take about a week, mixing an increasing proportion of the new food into the old.
  • Watch the stools. If something changes and stays changed, slow down or stop.
  • Ask your vet at the appointment you are booking anyway, rather than a forum.
  • Do not rush it. A puppy eating well on its current food is not a problem waiting to be fixed.

The first appointment is worth booking early rather than at week 12. Our vaccination schedule explains what is done before homecoming and what is still ahead, and the welcome pack page covers what comes with the puppy and what you still need to buy.

Puppy food, answered

Are there puppy food promotions running right now?
Ask us rather than read it here. Anything we published would be a snapshot, and a promotions page that has not been updated since last year is worse than no page at all. One message gets you the current answer, and it will also cover what your particular puppy is eating.
What food will my puppy already be on?
A specific one, and it is worth knowing before homecoming rather than after. Ask us and we will tell you exactly what the puppy has been eating and how much, so you can have some of it in the flat on day one instead of buying whatever the shop recommends.
Why should I not change food in the first week?
Because a puppy that has just left its litter is already dealing with a new home, new people, new smells and its first nights alone. A sudden diet change on top of that is the most common cause of an upset stomach in week one, and an upset stomach in a flat is a bad first week for everybody.
How do I switch food later?
Gradually, over about a week, by mixing an increasing proportion of the new food into the old. If anything about the stools changes and stays changed, slow down or stop and speak to your vet. There is no rush: a puppy that is eating well on its current food is not a problem waiting to be fixed.
How much should a puppy eat?
Follow the feeding guide on the food you are using, adjusted for the individual dog, and let your vet be the arbiter at the first appointment. We are not going to publish a quantity here, because it depends on the food, the breed and the puppy, and a number on a seller’s page is a poor substitute for the person who has weighed the animal.
Do you recommend a particular brand?
We are not going to name one on this page. We sell puppies rather than food, we have no affiliation to disclose, and a seller recommending a brand it does not sell is either guessing or being paid. Ask us what your puppy is on, and ask your vet what to move to if you want to change.
Does food come with the puppy?
A welcome pack goes home with every puppy and its contents are refreshed from time to time, so ask what is in the current one. Our free gifts page explains what is in the pack versus what is simply included in the price, and it publishes no list that would go stale.
What else should be ready before homecoming?
Bowls, the same food the puppy is already eating, pee pads or a tray in the spot you intend to keep, a crate or playpen set up in advance, and something safe to chew. Homecoming evening is a bad time to be assembling anything.
